The annual RateBeer Best Awards for 2014 were fully unveiled Friday, and in more or less a repeat of last year’s awards, numerous breweries and beer spots in South Carolina claimed titles based on user reviews and rankings.

Barley’s plans meet-and-greet with Stone president
As part of winning Stone‘s Most Arrogant Bar challenge (again), Barley‘s in Greenville has the privilege of once again hosting the Most Arrogant Bash, an insane Stone-centric tap takeover and party being held Wednesday, March 5. This year, Barley’s is offering drinkers the chance to have an intimate drinking session with the night’s special guest, Stone co-founder and President Steve Wagner.
Barley’s Most Arrogant Bash 2014 lineup revealed
Back-to-back Most Arrogant Bar champions Barley’s of Greenville helped start the week off a little better by unveiling the lineup for their 2014 Most Arrogant Bash scheduled for Wednesday, March 5 at 7 PM.
In case you missed it, Barley’s claimed the title of Stone‘s Most Arrogant Bar for the second year in a row by selling the most of the California brewery’s “Arrogant” beers. In addition to wearing the crown for another year, Barley’s gets to host a massive Stone tap takeover once again. Last year’s celebration was epic, and this year’s looks to be on par. Every year, beer review website and database RateBeer compiles its RateBeer Best list of the world’s best beers, breweries, bars and stores based on ratings and reviews by users. During the past week, the rankings have been slowly unveiled day by day, and as each new category was announced, South Carolina breweries and more racked up quite a few accolades. Here’s a rundown of who won what.
Details on Conquest’s Greenville launch
If you haven’t heard, Columbia’s Conquest brewery is expanding into the Greenville market later this month, marking the brewery’s move into its first major market outside of the Midlands. And for their launch, the brewery has lined up a range of events at some of Greenville’s biggest beer spots. Here’s where Greenvillians can get their first taste in the coming weeks.
Brewery 85 readies for retail launch, festival appearance
We’re a little more than two weeks out from the grand opening of Brewery 85, and in the run-up to its public opening, Greenville’s soon-to-be newest brewery will be making a few appearances around the city this week to give drinkers a literal taste of what’s to come.
On Thursday, January 16, The Community Tap will host a retail launch for Brewery 85. Will and Meredith McCameron and Jeremy Caldwell will be on hand to talk about the brewery and hand out tastes of some of their brews. The free tasting runs from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
Then, on Sunday, January 19, Brewery 85 will be setting up at Barley’s Biggest Little Beer Fest, joining a bevy of South Carolina’s finest breweries. Two of their flagship beers will be available: Southern Style, a 5.5% American pale ale, and Quittin’ Time, a 7.5% Helles bock.
Brewery 85 will open to the public on February 1.
