South Carolina Brewers Guild Executive Director Brook Bristow was recognized by the Brewers Association on Wednesday for his fight to modernize and improve craft beer laws in South Carolina.
In a surprise announcement this morning, San Diego-based Green Flashing Brewing Co. said it had acquired Alpine Beer Co., a much-hyped California brewery available only in the Golden State, with the two breweries striking a mutual production agreement. It’s is one that could bring much wider distribution for Alpine, including to South Carolina.
The Unknown Brewing Co., one of the more recent breweries to open in the Charlotte area, will expand distribution into South Carolina’s Upstate beginning next month.
Continuing the trend of South Carolina breweries moving into the Tar Heel State, Lancaster’s Benford Brewing Co. is now preparing to begin distribution in North Carolina.
Back in January, I reported that Cigar City was in negotiations with South Carolina distributors to begin shipping its product to the Palmetto State as part of a regional expansion throughout the Southeast. Well, it’s the middle of the year, and there’s no Jai Alai or Maduro Brown on South Carolina shelves yet, but the Tampa brewery is definitely on the verge of regional expansion, which is expected to begin by the end of the year.
