South Carolina Brewers Guild Executive Director Brook Bristow was recognized by the Brewers Association on Wednesday for his fight to modernize and improve craft beer laws in South Carolina.

Bristow, a Greenville-based attorney who has worked to strengthen beer laws in the state during the past few years, received the F.X. Matt Defense of the Small Brewing Industry award at the annual Craft Brewers Conference being held in Portland this week. The annual award recognizes a business or individual that goes above and beyond championing the craft brewing industry while working to improve it.

“This award isn’t due to my work, but to the work and dedication of so many in South Carolina,” Bristow said on Twitter after accepting the award. “This is OUR award.”

The award is named after the late F.X. Matt, founder of the Utica, NY F.X. Matt Brewing Co., in recognition of him being a”tireless and outspoken champion for the small brewing industry.”
