Edmund’s Oast opens Friday
You might want to reschedule your Valentine’s Day plans: Charleston’s Edmund’s Oast is opening this Friday.
The much-desired brewpub founded by Rich Carley and Scott Shor of The Charleston Beer Exchange has been in planning for about a year with a target opening date of sometime before Brewvival on February 22. They’ll beat that goal by just more than a week as opening day is Friday at 4:30 PM.
According to the Charleston City Paper, 42 taps will be up and running at opening, which include four of the brewpub’s own in-house brews. Thirteen of those taps will be set aside for just local beer, including COAST, Holy City and Freehouse. You can get a look at the dinner menu here.
SC breweries, beer spots snag multiple RateBeer Best titles
Every year, beer review website and database RateBeer compiles its RateBeer Best list of the world’s best beers, breweries, bars and stores based on ratings and reviews by users. During the past week, the rankings have been slowly unveiled day by day, and as each new category was announced, South Carolina breweries and more racked up quite a few accolades. Here’s a rundown of who won what.
Brewvival tickets on sale Nov. 29
Tickets for the fifth annual Brewvival beer festival will go on sale this Friday, November 29, beginning at 11 AM.
During the weekend, preliminary details about the February 22, 2014, festival were released. As usual, the festival will be held at the field across from the COAST brewery in North Charleston. Tickets will cost the same as last year – $65 – and can be purchased online or in person, likely at the brewery and fellow festival sponsor, The Charleston Beer Exchange. More details about how to get tickets will be released before Friday.
One small change from last year’s festival: It’s an hour shorter, running from noon to 5 PM this time. (Fingers crossed it won’t be as muddy this time around.) Expect more information – including the announcement of the keynote speaker and a list of participating breweries – to be announced in the coming weeks.
CBX owners featured on new Evil Twin brew
No strangers to being featured on Evil Twin label artwork, Scott Shor and Rich Carley of the Charleston Beer Exchange will again be front-and-center on a new brew from the Danish gypsy brewer.
Bozo Beer – there’s probably some inside joke there – is a gargantuan 17.2% ABV imperial stout brewed with coffee and features a mosaic of the CBX duo on the label. It’s not clear what other adjuncts went into the beer, but the label says you can expect notes of chilies, marshmallow, vanilla bean, muscovado sugar, cinnamon and more.
The beer was brewed and bottled at Westbrook. Look for it on shelves soon.
