Symposiums scheduled for Brewvival

Brewvival is switching things up this year when it comes to speakers and presentations. In lieu of hosting a featured keynote speaker – which have included the likes of Stone’s Greg Koch, Sierra Nevada’s Ken Grossman and Dogfish Head’s Sam Calagione in previous years – three symposiums will be held on a variety of topics throughout the festival. Per the Brewvival Facebook page, here’s the lineup:

A guide to SC beer at Brewvival

brewvival2014The time is nigh. This Saturday, Brewvival – considered by many to be one of if not the the best beer festivals in the Southeast – returns for a fifth year, once again bringing together a congregation of beer geeks to the (hopefully dry) field across from COAST.

The beer list, as in previous years, is a stellar representation of local, regional and national breweries. And as usual, the majority of attendees are bringing out their big guns, tapping kegs and casks of rare, one-off and limited beers for all to try.

While there’s quite the list of brews to sample this year, South Carolina beer will be well-represented at the annual festival. SC stalwarts and newcomers alike will be showcasing their goods at the festival, which runs from noon to 5 PM. In total, 54 beers from South Carolina are on the list, with 26 of those from the Charleston area alone.

You can find the full list of beers here, but here’s a rundown of what SC beer you’ll be able to enjoy this weekend.

Brewvival 2014 sells out

brewvival2014In 2013, tickets for the annual Brewvival beer festival sold out in just 83 days, possibly the quickest the festival had sold off all of its tickets since its inception.

There’s a new record to beat next year: On Thursday, Brewvival 2014 officially sold out, 69 days after tickets went on sale. Tickets were available online as well as at COAST, the Charleston Beer Exchange and the Greenville Beer Exchange. All digital and physical tickets are now gone.

Brewvival will be held Saturday, February 22 at the field across from COAST. You’ll find the list of what you can enjoy (assuming you have a ticket) here.

Holy City readies 3rd pre-Brewvival fish fry

holycity

For the past couple of years, Holy City has hosted a fish fry the Friday night before Brewvival to give people a chance to congregate, celebrate and get a preview of what the brewery will be pouring at the festival the next day.

That tradition continues this year as HCB once again hosts the gathering on Friday, February 21, from 3-8 PM.

REFULER’S Mobile Cafe will be serving food (including fried fish) and The Bluestone Ramblers will be providing tunes. And as with previous years, all of the beers HCB will be pouring at Brewvival will be on tap. This year’s offerings include multiple collaborations with Wicked Weed, NoDa, RJ Rockers and Southbound. Brewers from those breweries may also be making an appearance at the event.

The event is free, aside from beer and food. You can RSVP at the Facebook event page.

Holy City collaborates with SC, NC, GA breweries for Brewvival

holycity

If you’ve been following Brewvival’s Twitter account (and if you’re not, you really should), you’ve noticed they’ve slowly been releasing the beers and breweries that will be appearing at the festival. And there was quite an announcement Wednesday afternoon: Of the five beers Holy City will have on hand, four will be collaborations with regional breweries.

In addition to a Jack Daniels barrel-aged version of their Manuel Fantastico barleywine, HCB will also be offering the following:

  • Holy Weed, an imperial IPA brewed in collaboration with Wicked Weed out of Asheville, NC. It’ll include green tea from the Charleston Tea Plantation.
  • Sister City Saison, a farmhouse ale brewed in collaboration with Savannah’s Southbound Brewing Co. This one’s an imperial saison brewed with rose hips.
  • Half Calf, brewed with Spartanburg’s RJ Rockers. It’s a coffee milk stout that includes coffee from Coastal Coffee Roasters in Summerville.
  • Shades of Grace, a blend of HCB’s Graveyard Shiftee and NoDa of Charlotte’s Imperial Coco Loco. So, a massive imperial porter.

Brewvival will be held Saturday, February 22, at the field across from COAST. It will sell out.
