Brewery 85 tasting room opens in March

Brewery85

If you missed the grand opening of Brewery 85 this past weekend and were hoping to visit the tasting room soon to make up for it, you’ll have to wait until next month.

The brewery announced Tuesday morning that regular operating hours for the tasting room won’t begin until Thursday, March 6. While there will be occasional operating days throughout February, everyone wants to make sure things are running smoothly before beginning regular hours.

When they do open, they’ll operate Thursdays and Fridays from 4-7 PM and Saturdays 11 AM to 4 PM.

Brewery 85 readies for retail launch, festival appearance

We’re a little more than two weeks out from the grand opening of Brewery 85, and in the run-up to its public opening, Greenville’s soon-to-be newest brewery will be making a few appearances around the city this week to give drinkers a literal taste of what’s to come.

On Thursday, January 16, The Community Tap will host a retail launch for Brewery 85. Will and Meredith McCameron and Jeremy Caldwell will be on hand to talk about the brewery and hand out tastes of some of their brews. The free tasting runs from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

Then, on Sunday, January 19, Brewery 85 will be setting up at Barley’s Biggest Little Beer Fest, joining a bevy of South Carolina’s finest breweries. Two of their flagship beers will be available: Southern Style, a 5.5% American pale ale, and Quittin’ Time, a 7.5% Helles bock.

Brewery 85 will open to the public on February 1.

Brewery 85 begins production

Put this one in the SC beer history books: Today – Wednesday, December 11 – Greenville’s Brewery 85 held its first brew day on its full-scale system.

After months of preparation and construction, the Upstate brewery today fired up its brewhouse and began production on its large system. Brewer Will McCameron has been brewing out of his garage but will now move operations into the brewery itself. Up first: Southern Style Pale Ale

A tentative grand opening day has been scheduled for January 18, 2014, and the brewery will likely be on hand at Brewvival in Charleston February 22.

Brewery 85 sets tentative opening day

Greenville’s Brewery 85 has come a long way since I first got a look at the place earlier this year. From a thicket of brush to a full-fledged brewery, development at one of SC’s newest beer spots has been moving along full steam ahead all year. And they’re confident enough in their progress to pencil in a grand opening date: January 18, 2014.

Tuesday evening, the brewery posted an update about its progress so far. In short, the first couple of batches will be brewed beginning next week and should hit the Greenville market soon after. While opening day isn’t set in stone, things are going smoothly enough to put a potential date out there. A tour and tasting schedule hasn’t been announced yet but will be announced once the brewery’s new website launches.

Tuesday was a big day for Greenville’s upcoming Brewery 85. Beginning in the morning and continuing throughout the day, the arrival and installation of much of the brewhouse was documented on the brewery’s Instagram page.

Arrivals included a 30 BBL mash tun, a 30 BBL kettle, one 15 BBL fermenter, four 60 BBL fermenters and a 60 BBL brite tank.

The brewery has long eyed a fall 2013 opening date, but with the government shutdown still in effect, the agency that authorizes the federal brewing permits is shuttered, meaning opening day is currently TBD.

Greenville Brew Tours launches Aug. 10

GreenvilleBrewTours

With the craft beer scene in Greenville growing even larger in 2013, the region is becoming an even bigger player in South Carolina’s ever-growing craft beer scene. And starting later this summer, a new tour will help highlight the past and the future of craft beer in the Upstate city.

Beginning Aug. 10 and running every Saturday thereafter, Greenville Brew Tours will take visitors on a trip through Greenville’s craft beer scene, including the bars and breweries that play an integral role in the scene. With 2012 being a record year for tourism in Greenville, now’s the perfect time to strike while the iron’s hot, according to Andy Moller, a managing partner in the endeavor.

“Greenville is a dynamic, cosmopolitan city with a lot of momentum that’s attracting visitors from all over the world – we’re untapping a new, unique way for tourists and locals to experience Greenville while discovering more about its growing local beer industry,” he said in a release.

Tours, which cost $45 per person, will begin at Barley’s Tap Room and stop at Greenville’s three breweries: Thomas Creek, Quest and Brewery 85. Guests will get a behind-the-scenes look at the brewing process at each brewery, learn how each differs and – of course – get a taste of what each has to offer.

Anywhere from four to 12 guests can be accommodated on each tour, and private and corporate tours are also available.

Visit the company’s website and follow them on Twitter for more information.
