Tonight is the season opener for the Columbia Fireflies, the city’s minor league baseball team, and Tim Tebow won’t be the only new addition to Spirit Communications Park. Columbia’s River Rat Brewery has been tapped with brewing a signature beer for the team and will make its public debut at the game Thursday evening.
Luminescent Lager is a straightforward and traditional 4% ABV American lager that will be available at the park starting tonight and in wider distribution beginning the day after. River Rat has had a presence at the park since the team debuted last year but this will be the first time the Fireflies have had a beer all their own.
The Fireflies are the Class A South Atlantic League affiliate of the New York Mets and the first professional baseball team to play in Columbia since 2004. In June the park – a multi-use 7,501-seat venue named 2016 Ballpark of the Year – will host the league’s all-star game.
Also: Tim Tebow.
