The annual RateBeer Best Awards for 2014 were fully unveiled Friday, and in more or less a repeat of last year’s awards, numerous breweries and beer spots in South Carolina claimed titles based on user reviews and rankings.
Westbrook again claimed the title for Best Brewery, Best Tap Room and Best Beer (Mexican Cake) for South Carolina. The Mount Pleasant brewery also claimed wins in a few different style categories: Low/Moderate Alcohol Beer (Gozu, No. 13); Dark Lager (Dark Helmet, No. 13, where it ranked last year); and Traditional (Gozu up one spot to No. 10 and Gose down one to No. 13). They were also named of the Top 100 Breweries in the World.
The Charleston Beer Exchange also earned a few honors, including being named the Best Bottle Shop for the state as well as one of the best in the country. Other retailers receiving nods include Barley’s in Greenville (Best Restaurant); the Whole Foods in Greenville (Best Grocery); and Columbia’s Flying Saucer (Best Bar).
