2nd RJ Rockers/Holy City collaboration released Friday

RJHCCitracollab

Remember that second collaboration beer RJ Rockers and Holy City were brewing up recently? Well, it’s got a name and a release date.

Holy Citra, RJ! is a 7% ABV single-hopped Citra IPA concocted by the Upstate and Lowcountry breweries. This collaboration was brewed in Charleston and follows their Stuck on Rye 26 red ale, which was brewed in Spartanburg.

Holy Citra and Stuck on Rye 26 will both be tapped at the Charleston Total Wine & More store Friday, May 17, beginning at 5 p.m. for samples and growler fills.

RJ Rockers’ new Day Drinker IPA designed to live up to its name

RJRockers

Ah, day drinking. Who doesn’t love cracking open a few cold ones while the sun is still up, especially on a sunny summer day. Here in South Carolina, summer afternoons generally call for lighter fare.

Enter Day Drinker IPA, the newest brew from Spartanburg’s RJ Rockers. The light, sessionable IPA designed for … well, day drinking. The beer was brewed for the first time Thursday morning.

Day Drinker will come in at around 5% ABV and feature a lighter malt flavor, bitter hops on the front and more of a stinging floral and citrus finish. Keep an eye out for it when it’s released in late June.

Quest receives state license

Questlicense

What you have right there is the S.C. Department of Revenue brewing license recently acquired by Greenville’s Quest Brewing Co. It’s like they’re a real brewery or something!

This, along with all the other recent developments at the brewery, means they continue to inch closer to opening day. While the grand opening had been penciled in for some time this month, Quest announced Wednesday morning that there’s been a slight change of plans.

“The reason we have not confirmed a target date for our grand opening is due to the uncertainties surrounding us,” yesterday’s post said. “Once we have beer in the fermentors and all proper permits, we will know for sure. We are shooting for a Saturday in mid to late June.”

Westbrook’s Mexican Cake returns

WestbrookYou knew they were brewing it. You knew it was coming. The only question that remained: When would Westbrook‘s Mexican Cake be back in our lives again.

The answer? Soon. Very, very soon.

I’ll wait while you change your pants …

Wednesday night, Westbook’s Mike Levin announced details of the soon-t0-be-re-released imperial stout brewed with peppers. Here are the important points:

  • The brewery has readied 6,000 bottles (500 cases) of Mexican Cake, a sharp increase from the 1,440 bottles (120 cases) produced during the initial release;
  • The beer could be released as early as today at the brewery and should start hitting shelves across the state within the next couple of weeks;
  • South Carolina will (obviously) get the bulk of the shipment, but some cases may end up in Georgia and Alabama depending on how many orders were placed;
  • Bombers should clock in at about $12. Bottle limits will be under the purview of respective stores.
