Westbrook Gose, Shane’s Big DIPA return for 2015
Two of Westbrook Brewing Co.’s most popular warm-weather beers are returning for another season.
COAST Boy King returns today
One of the East Coast’s – and arguably the country’s – best imperial IPAs returns to the Palmetto State starting today.
Westbrook’s Shane’s Big DIPA returns next month
Westbrook has announced Shane’s Big DIPA will return to the market in February.
First released in March of 2013, the 9.6% imperial IPA is the brainchild of brewer Shane Cummings. It’s a massively hoppy 80 IBU DIPA that was really well-received when it was first released and should be just as popular the second go-around.

Westbrook hosting Meat Beer Fire Local
Back in April, Westbrook and Evil Twin teamed up to present Meat Beer Fire, a gathering in Georgia complete with a bevy of cooked meets, specialty brews and … well, fire. (It’s kind of self-explanatory.) The event was designed to be showcase for heritage breeds of livestock and meat. Also, there was awesome beer. And fire.
This weekend, they’re bringing that celebration back to the Palmetto State. Westbrook is hosting a local version of MBF at the brewery this Saturday, Sept. 7, from noon to 5 p.m. All the meat comes from LJ Woods Farm in Sylvania, GA, and Bradley Taylor of Revival Foods will be cooking a whole hog as well.
On the brew tip, the latest release in Westbrook’s Bearded Farmer saison series will be available on draft and in bottles for the first time. This release, dubbed “Taylor” (as in Bradley Taylor), comes in at 6.5% and is brewed with rye, Tettanger and Pride of Ringwood hops and fermented with a blend of farmhouse saison and Brett yeasts. Other special brews will be on tap as well, including the re-release of Citrus Ninja Exchange. Both Citrus Ninja and Bearded Farmer will distributed next week.
More information about the event can be found here.
COAST Boy King hits kegs this weekend, bottles next
He’s baaaaack!
Boy King, COAST Brewing Co.’s stellar double IPA last released nearly a year ago, has returned to the Palmetto State once again. Friday morning, the brewery tweeted that they had begun filling kegs of the 9.7% DIPA for tastings and growler fills during this weekend’s tours. The beer will be bottled and on sale at the brewery beginning next weekend.
I’m not alone in thinking Boy King is not only one of the best DIPAs on the East Coast, but also countrywide, so the news this brew is back is sure to excite many a hophead in the Palmetto State.
Westbrook re-brewing Citrus Ninja Exchange
“Better late than never,” Westbrook Assistant Brewer Mike Levin tweeted Thursday, accompanied by a photo teasing the re-brewing of the Westbrook/Charleston Beer Exchange collaboration Citrus Ninja Exchange.
Citrus Ninja, which was last on shelves about a year ago, is a 9% double IPA brewed with a heaping helping of citrus fruits. Since it was first brewed in 2011, the beer has undergone a couple of changes. The initial release was single-hopped with Cascade and then saw an addition of 50 pounds of fresh grapefruit, then dry-hopped an additional four times. The 2012 release had a different malt bill and a blend of American and New Zealand hop.
What’s in store for the 2013 edition? We’ll find out in a few weeks.
