Carolina Bauernhaus Ales will close out September with the bottle release of its 18 Mile Red Plum sour.
The beer is a version of their Belgian-influenced red ale brewed with rye malt and aged in regional wine barrels, fermented for four months with Lacto, Brett & wild yeast harvested from Clemson University’s Musser Experimental Fruit Research Farm, then blended with purple plums for an additional three months. The result is a 7.2% ABV sour with notes of jam, dark fruit and oak.
Bottles will go on sale at the brewery Friday, Sept. 30 beginning at 4 PM. There’s a limit of 10 750 ml. bottles per person.
Carolina Bauernhaus has previously released a Grand Cru version of 18 Mile aged in Tempranillo barrels. Earlier this month, they released a blackberry version of their Feral Barrel dark wild ale.
