So-called New England IPAs – a niche of the style characterized by a cloudy or hazy appearance, tropical fruit flavors and little to any hop bitterness on the finish – are the style du jour in craft beer at the moment, and Bluffton’s Southern Barrel has introduced its own take on the style: Damn Yankee.
Previously a draft-only option found in their taproom, Damn Yankee (6% ABV) began hitting wider distribution on draft this week with cans soon to follow (as seen above). The brewery describes the beer as having a medium body with a deep hazy orange color and, in contrast with the style, a “dank full-flavored hop finish.”
Having recently tried the beer during a visit to the brewery, I can say it’s pretty true to style. Look for it soon wherever Southern Barrel beers are sold.
