While it’s been law for a couple of months now, a ceremonial signing of the “Stone Bill” will be held at one of Columbia’s breweries this week.
Conquest Brewing Co. will host South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for a ceremonial signing of the bill at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 13. The signing is open to the public.
Back in June, Haley signed into law legislation that expanded rights for breweries throughout the state by increasing production caps and allowing breweries to construct food service areas on site. The law also aimed to attract Stone Brewing Co., which was considering SC as a home for its East Coast satellite brewery, although Stone passed on the Palmetto State.
However, the bill is already showing its worth for SC breweries. Charleston’s Holy City recently opened a kitchen, allowing it to serve food and benefit from the aspects of the law (including unlimited on-premise consumption and guest taps). Columbia’s River Rat is also constructing a kitchen as well.
