Westbrook Gose ranked No. 1 on BA, RateBeer

Westbrook

It’s fairly well-known that I think Westbrook‘s Gose is incredible. Canned, bottled, draft, whatever. It’s quickly become one of my favorite beers of all time, and apparently I’m not the only one who thinks it’s a damn good brew.

The 4% sour/salty wheat ale has clinched the No. 1 spot on both BeerAdvocate and RateBeer, scoring a 93 and 97, respectively. Both websites compile their rating from user reviews, so the popularity of the beer is ever-increasing.

Based off my completely unscientific analysis of social media chatter, Gose has seen an explosion in popularity and demand since it was released in cans a couple of weeks ago. That popularity has surely played a role in increasing the beer’s (well-deserved) clout.

Quest, River Dog update tasting room hours

scbrewers

The (tasting room) times, they are a-changin’ for a couple more South Carolina breweries.

Earlier this week, Conquest announced it would be adding an additional day and a few more weekend hours to its tasting room’s hours of operation. And since then, two other SC breweries have followed suit:

  • Quest pushed their opening time back an hour for weekdays. They will now be open from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursdays and 4-9 p.m. on Fridays.
  • River Dog has added “Hoppy Hump Day” to its tasting room hours. They’ll now be open on Wednesdays from 3-8 p.m., in addition to Thursdays and Fridays (same hours) as well as Saturdays (noon-8 p.m.).

Conquest debuts Brutus Imperial Stout tonight

Conquest

A couple of weeks ago, during a beer dinner in Columbia, Conuqest gave attendees the chance to try one of the first tastes of their upcoming Brutus, a 10.5% imperial stout brewed with, among other ingredients, chocolate malt, roasted barley and Warrior hops. The brewers promised to release the beer to the general public soon, and starting tonight, you’ll be able to get a taste for yourself.

Brutus will see its debut in the Conquest tasting room Wednesday night beginning at 5 p.m. For now, there’s only one sixtel of the beer available, so tasters and pints only, but more will be made for all to enjoy later this year.

Pitch black in body, Brutus wields his weapons of chocolate malt, roasted barley, and oatmeal to wreak havoc on your taste buds. With a body thick enough to coat your palate and leave his stain forever in your memory, Brutus invites you to join him in his dark quest for control of the known world.
