Brewpub bill passes SC House
Legislation aimed at attracting larger breweries to the state by paving the way for expanded rights for South Carolina brewpubs passed the South Carolina House of Representatives today by an overwhelming margin after being added as an amendment to another alcohol-related bill.
On Stone in SC
When it comes to Stone Brewing Co.’s move from the Left Coast, my opinion is one I’ve kept quite some time now, but one I can’t seem to shake or change no matter what angle I approach the issue from. Maybe it’s because I haven’t wanted to go against the grain with so many friends and professionals in the industry. Maybe it’s because I didn’t want to seem as if I was putting down one of my favorite breweries or working against the economic interests of the state. It could be a whole host of reasons.
But as time has progressed and the issue has grown in prominence, I keep coming back to the same opinion: At this point in time, I would rather not have Stone – or any large brewery – pick the Palmetto State as the home for its new satellite brewery.
Put down your pitchforks and torches and let me explain why. Continue reading

Barley’s Most Arrogant Bash 2014 lineup revealed
Back-to-back Most Arrogant Bar champions Barley’s of Greenville helped start the week off a little better by unveiling the lineup for their 2014 Most Arrogant Bash scheduled for Wednesday, March 5 at 7 PM.
In case you missed it, Barley’s claimed the title of Stone‘s Most Arrogant Bar for the second year in a row by selling the most of the California brewery’s “Arrogant” beers. In addition to wearing the crown for another year, Barley’s gets to host a massive Stone tap takeover once again. Last year’s celebration was epic, and this year’s looks to be on par. Here’s what’s on tap for the celebration:
Barley’s wins “Most Arrogant Bar” title. Again.
In 2012, Barley’s in Greenville participated in Stone‘s “Most Arrogant Bar” challenge to see which bar could sell the highest number of Stone’s “Arrogant” beers. They won, beating out around 360 bars nationwide, and as as a result got to throw a huge party with a killer tap list and a visit from Stone CEO Greg Koch.
And they’ve done it again. Thursday afternoon, the bar announced it had claimed back-to-back titles. Once again, they beat out more than 300 bars to win the crown once again.
The requisite party is already in the work, but since Koch will be taking a sabbatical, brewery Co-founder Steve Wagner and Brewmaster Mitch Steele will be on hand to celebrate. Keep an eye out for more details soon.
