Are you a homebrewer who wants to have a winning recipe brewed on a professional full-scale level? RJ Rockers and Growlers Haus are offering you the chance to do just that.

The Spartanburg brewery and beer store are teaming up for the Hub City Hog Fest Home Brew competition on March 28. The winning regional homebrewer will have the chance to brew their winning recipe on the brewery’s 30 BBL system.

Growler Haus progresses toward Spartanburg expansion

GrowlerHausAnderson’s Growler Haus is continuing on the path toward opening a second location in downtown Spartanburg, although they’ve deviated somewhat from their original plan.

In March, I wrote about how the Anderson-based growler store had entered itself in Spartanburg’s Main Street Challenge for a chance to win a prime spot in downtown Spartanburg as well as some money to cover rent for the first year. But according to a story from the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, Growler Haus owner Craig Kinley decided to withdraw from the competition and instead seize on a vacant property on his own.

Kinley signed a lease on a former cigar shop at 113 N. Church St. in Spartanburg and hopes to have the second Growler Haus location open by the summer.

The store is still continuing with its crowdsourced fundraising campaign, but that’s not going so well for them. With a little more than two weeks left, the campaign has taken in just $720 of the $12,000 goal. However, that doesn’t seem to be slowing them down.

When it opens, the store will offer the same amenities as its main location: the opportunity to buy a pint to enjoy there or grab a growler to take home. A light food menu will also be offered, as well as beer dinners, private tastings and so on in the future.

Growler Haus a finalist in Spartanburg economic recruitment program

GrowlerHaus

Anderson’s Growler Haus, which is currently in the midst of a fundraising campaign to help finance the establishment of a sister store in Spartanburg, has been named one of 19 finalists in the Spartanburg’s Main Street Challenge.

The prize? A spot in downtown Spartanburg and $1,000 a month for a year of rent assistance.

The inaugural development competition launched in January with 58 entrants vying for a chance to be picked as one of three winners. The competition is aimed at attracting more businesses to vacant storefronts in the downtown area and encouraging more development, a perfect fit for Growler Haus as they’re hoping to open a second location in the city. Their business plan was picked as one of the finalists along with a distillery, a maternity store, an upscale bar and more.

The winners will be announced on May 26, the day before Growler Haus’ fundraising campaign ends.

Anderson’s Growler Haus looks toward Spartanburg expansion

GrowlerHaus

South Carolina’s Upstate is one of the burgeoning regions for craft beer in the state. Greenville is home to Thomas Creek, and soon Brewery 85 and Quest; Spartanburg boasts RJ Rockers; and there are numerous craft beer stores and bars for beer geeks to get their fix at.

One of those growing establishments is Growler Haus, the first store of its kind in Anderson. The focus of the store is right there in its name: growlers. Founder Craig Kinley wanted to finally give the Anderson area the experience of being able to go to a local store for your occasional growler fill. And now, with the help of crowdsourced funding, Kinley is looking to expand that operation into Spartanburg.

An online fundraising campaign looks to raise $12,000 to help get the second store to bear the Growler Haus name started. The focus of the store would be the same: Giving patrons a friendly atmosphere to enjoy a taste and get your 64 ounces of liquid enjoyment to take home.

As with most online fundraisers, a variety of incentives – from pint glasses and t-shirts to private parties – are being offered to help raise funds. The campaign will wrap up May 27.
