A few years ago, Westbrook launched its Bearded Farmer series of saisons, in which the brewery made “each successive beer a little (or a lot) differently than the ones before it.” This week marked the return of the series with its first release since since 2013.
Thornhill, the fifth Bearded Farmer entry, is a 6.3% tart saison-style ale that blends sour and non-sour beers brewed with pilsner malt and Hallertau Blanc hops, then fermented with French saison and Brett yeasts, and finally dry-hopped with more Hallertau Blanc.
Previous entries in the series include Hughey and McCullough. The beer is currently available on draft and in bottles at the brewery and started hitting distribution throughout the state this week.
No word yet on the future of the series.
