Cigar City Brewing – which has been in negotiations to begin distribution in South Carolina soon – is looking to build a separate brewery in addition to its Tampa base, and South Carolina is on the shortlist to host it, according to a new report.
Thursday, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported Cigar City has been scouting locations for an expansion brewery in the Carolinas and Florida. Asheville is reportedly in the running, but so is Travelers Rest, located in South Carolina’s Upstate and the home of the Swamp Rabbit Brewery. The facility would house a 50 BBL brewhouse and may finally lead to expanded CCB distribution outside of Florida.
Should South Carolina be picked, it’d be a big boost for the state following Stone Brewing Co.’s decision to locate its East Coast facility in Richmond, VA, even after the passing of the Stone Law. Cigar City also operates a brewpub in Tampa, and the new law would lay the groundwork for a possible similar facility here should the brewery want one.
