The former head brewer of Columbia’s Conquest Brewing Co. returns to the South Carolina market this week with his new home, North Carolina’s Granite Falls Brewing Co.
About a year ago, Joseph Ackerman – one of the founders of Conquest – departed the brewery and relocated to Granite Falls, NC, a town of about 5,000 residents located just outside of Hickory, NC. He jumped on board with the town’s eponymous brewery soon after and has helped expand the brewery’s portfolio and barrel program, along the way adding former Thomas Creek brewer Zach Newton to the staff.
Today, Granite Falls officially launches in the Columbia market, and Ackerman couldn’t be happier to be home.
“I love Columbia. It is where I was raised and where my passion for beer was formed,” he said. “I am excited that friends and family will be able to once again have a piece of my hard work in their glasses.”
To kick off the launch, Green’s Piney Grove will be hosting a tap takeover event featuring 18 different beers from the brewery, including their Knotty Gurl Blonde, Hoppalachia IPA and Castle Stormer Scottish Ale, as well as limited offerings such as Perseus Triple IPA (13.4%) and BA Baird’s Forge Imperial Red (12.3%). Granite Falls will also be featured at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden’s annual Brew at the Zoo on Friday.
More details about distribution and products are coming soon.
