The 2016 US Open Beer Championship awards were announced in Oxford, OH this past weekend, and three South Carolina breweries took home four total medals at the annual competition.
The US Open Beer Championship is an annual contest including both professional breweries and homebrewers, with entries judged by an international panel. This year, more than 5,000 beers in 90 different styles were entered for consideration.
Out of those entries, three local breweries – Revelry and Tradesman (Charleston) and River Dog (Ridgeland) – racked up new hardware in the following categories:
- Imperial IPA – River Dog Force Ten (Bronze)
- French/Belgian Saison – Tradesman Dry Branch Saison (Bronze)
- International Style Pilsner – River Dog Riverwalk Empire (Silver)
- American Cream Ale – Revelry Gullah Cream Ale (Gold)
Revelry, in particular, saw an upgrade for Gullah Cream, which won a silver at the 2015 awards.
