Our local alt weekly even dedicated its cover story last week to the rise of rye whiskey. It’s great for folks – myself included – who love rye, and it’s a good way to introduce other people to something new. The more, the merrier.

The flavor is somewhere between 420 and IPA. The nose is more tropical fruit whereas IPA and 420 and more piney. The mouthfeel is a big richer, leaning more toward the juiciness of the IPA. The finish has a bite similar to IPA, but it’s more of a strong citrus and rye bite than the pine of IPA or the crispness of 420. It’s hard to pick out which one is my favorite as each has something unique to it.

It should be up your way shortly if it’s not out already. Definitely pick some up.

It seems that the popularity of rye beers is on the upswing with a lot more breweries using rye, especially for IPAs. How would you rate it against SweetWater’s other pale ale offerings?
